An extension programme of Dev Sanskriti Vishwavidalaya
THEME OF THE SCHEME:
Father of the nation Mahatma Gandhi thought that the students of the nation should be involved in the task of national service.
It was thought that besides their classes, students should be aware of social circumstances and should contribute to the nation by spreading awareness. Thus with the help of University Grants Commission, a step was taken with the introduction of national service in the academic institutions on a voluntary basis with a view to developing healthy contacts between the students and teachers on the one hand and establishing a constructive linkage between the campus and the community on the other hand.
This scheme is under Ministry of youth Affairs and sports. It was felt that this nation has a population of fifty percent of youth, and youth is full of energy and fresh ideas. Thus this scheme was finally launched in all the institutions.
The scheme has grown over the years and it is implemented today with an involvement of more than 2.6 million volunteers spread over in 200 Universities, Polytechnics and +2 Systems. The efforts of NSS volunteers have been widely acclaimed by the community, universities, colleges and general public as the NSS volunteers have been rendering selfless service to the community.
