Brief Introduction

About the Department: Department came in to existence in May, 2018 as a result of restructuring of DSVV. However, MSc Applied Medicinal Plants Sciences degree program was introduced in July, 2014. This program is unique in the sense that it is oriented towards holistic rural development and biodiversity conservation. The program is showing ample scope for self-employment and employment in public and private organizations.

Research Project Proposals: Under Consideration

Research: The faculty members are conducting research on biodiversity conservation and exploratory botany of medicinal and aromatic plants. At the same time seed science and technology aspects are being worked out. Research on processing of herbs for ayurvedic, unani and homoeopathic systems is also in progress.

Activities Of  Department

Consultancy Work

Free consultancy (Extension): It is the unique feature of the program. This is being done by the trainings of farmers, scientists, some NGOs, cooperatives and participants coming from all parts of the world.

Other Activities:

  • Collection, identification, storage and testing of medicine plants seeds in genebank system lab.
    Development of reference herbarium.
  • Processing products for different systems of treatments.
  • MAPs nursery development through the involvement of PG students and their involvement in experimental marketing.
  • PG students are actively involved in Applied Research on various aspects of Exploratory Botany, Seed Science and Technology, Organic Farming, Harvest and Post harvest management, Processing, Pharmacognosy, Marketing and Ethnopharmaceutical studies.
  • Further, the students are developing confidence for treating the common ailments of human beings and domestic animals by using plant based remedies.
