International Conference Scientific Spirituality

Chetana (Consciousness) and Jada (matter) can be symbolized as Spirituality and Science. Generic view looks at them as two different streams. In fact, they are interwoven and essential for their existential manifestation. The bonding of both is clearly reflected in the mechanisms working behind the applications of all time-tested systems of different cultures across the globe that deploy the power of consciousness in practice for the holistic welfare and evolution of all beings.

The present conference aims to bring together scholars working in related fields to understand these mechanisms and the deep science behind them, in the light of the Omnipresent Eternal Consciousness-Force, and the sublime and manifested realms of Nature.

“The rigid convictions and practices of spirituality weaken their authenticity without scientific spirit and openness. The philosophy and teachings of spirituality without having a scientific approach lose their relevance and originality in the smog of blind faith and superstitions. Science also remains narrow and incomplete without incorporating spirituality. Science without spirituality has no bonds of values and so there is an obvious danger of it becoming aristocratic and apathetic.”

— Pandit Shriram Sharma Acharya, Seer-Sage, Saintly Social-Reformer.

Scientific Spirituality deals with the scientific nature, perennial relevance, and universal truth of spirituality. Its theories and principles originate from a universal view that incorporates both spiritual (pertaining to Consciousness) and physical (pertaining to matter) entities within the scope of its explanatory framework.

The enlightened vision of Pandit Shriram Sharma Acharya, a seer-sage, saintly social-reformer had pioneered renaissance of spirituality in scientific light. He envisaged Scientific Spirituality as the beacon light of golden future for humanity. In his views —

Science without spirituality has no bonds of values and so there is an obvious danger of its becoming aristocratic and apathetic.”

Acharya Bhardwaj reviewed the holistic approach of the ancient Indian sages (rishis) towards scientific research. He said that science as viewed and developed by the rishis pertained to search of truth in an absolute sense and it was not confined only to matter or manifestation of Nature, which was perceivable through the sense organs; rather its domains of research encompassed the infinite expanse of Nature, consciousness force and eternal reflections of divinity.

Science of Holistic Well-Being, Illumined Empowerment, & Blissful Evolution:

A particularly advanced theoretical system for understanding the mechanisms of evolved transformation of humans is the theory of a sublime element of primordial life-force energy that exists at the threshold between consciousness and matter. Within Vedic (Hindu) philosophy, this sublime energy is called Praña. Within Chinese traditions, it is known as “Chi”; Japanese refer it as “Qi”; it is “Mana” for Polynesians, etc. The yogic methods and (sadhana) practices of Scientific Spirituality deal with gathering, conserving, raising, constructively using, and expanding this vital spiritual energy.

On the mental fronts the practices of scientific spirituality focus at emancipation, progress, expansion, and illumination of intellect and emotions. Successful progress of these leads to divine transmutation and evolution of the human self.

Importance in Humanities & Social Sciences:

Scientific Spirituality also pertains to integration of spirituality and social sciences. The methods and practices of upasana, sadhana and aradhana aim at holistic development of the individuals as well as the society. Acharya Sharma regarded scientific spirituality as the key to holistic management and progress of human life on personal, professional, familial and social fronts.

Contribution to Sustainability & Righteous Development:

Scientific Spirituality is an evolved science of mind that illuminates the intellect towards righteous path and awakens divine sensitivity in the heart (emotional core). It thus has promising potential as guiding light and force for crucial remedial and comprehensive measure/mode towards sustainability, global cooperation and holistic development against all odds of the present times.

DSVV’s greatest strength lies in the unique vision of its patron visionary, Yugrishi Pt. Shriram Sharma Acharya; together under whose aegis science and spirituality has been brought together under one roof. The volunteer based model brings an environment that values teaching, learning, research and all other activities. DSVV offers its learners a home away from home where students and faculty members learn and grow together. The residential campus at the foothills of Himalayas and lap of Ganga presents a serene environment for holistic development of personality. The University was established to meet the pressing need of a high quality educational system based on scientific spirituality and grounded in a spiritual life style.

The combination of traditional gurukul style of teaching with most modern curricula leads to holistic development of students. The university today, hosts students from all states of India along with those from several other countries like Korea, Japan, Iran, Malaysia, China, Russia, Spain, Latvia, Lithuania, Germany, Taiwan, Czech Republic, USA, Australia, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, Nepal, Bhutan etc.

Within a short span of time since its inception in 2002, the University has taken rapid strides towards achieving its goals by imparting contemporary education (Shiksha) with spiritual wisdom (Vidya).
